Being in business for yourself is scary as shit sometimes. It is freeing as well. 2016 has been a great year for me and my business. I went from being a mom who was "trying" to work to a working mom. I went from seeing clients in person, to only having sessions online. It has been a whirlwind of awesome experiences.
I have seen so many shifts in my business, how I work, what I actually do, and my visions of the future I intend to create. I have learned new modalities, made great new friends and even started making some cash.
One of the biggest things I have noticed about myself and working in a virtual world, is that it can be really overwhelming at times. Social media is a great tool to attract those perfect clients. It can also be a huge time suckage if you are not careful. Scrolling Facebook or Instagram can uplift you and stress you out when you are an online entrepreneur.
I love social media because it has opened up a whole new market for my services as a healer. My reach is far greater than it ever was. Some of my first clients were in Europe! But the dark side of social media is the seeming "comparisonitis" which can arise. All these amazing people doing amazing things can become a huge distraction and confidence killer. I have seen some amazing people burn out and disappear on social media in this last year; myself included at times.
Working from home in and of itself can be a challenge. Feeling isolated from "the real world" can hit you, getting sidetracked with household chores is always there, having people in your life (aka friends and family) not fully understand that you are in fact working even though you are on Facebook. Sigh....it is all so very fascinating to me.
I will tell you this, with all the hardships of owning a business and working to grow it in this world we live in, I just wouldn't trade it for anything. I love the freedom I have to create my own schedule and charge what I want to charge for my services. I am able to be with my kids, pick them up from school, go on field trips. That is important to me, and I have made this my reality by the choices I have made. It isn't always easy, but like I said, I wouldn't trade it for the world.
When you reflect back on 2016, what has changed for you? How have you grown and changed? What are you planning for 2017? I have a lot of plans for next year. I am creating fun and life changing programs! I am having a great time in my little blue office with my orange desk. Until next time...
