This time of year (after the holidays are long gone), is an interesting time. There are so many blogs, emails, "special offers" from gyms and other workout programs, Facebook posts, etc. about keeping those New Year's resolutions of getting fit, losing weight, eating healthier, blah, blah, blah. I find it both amusing and stressful. It seems like everyone jumps on board this train of resolutions, and it can all be overwhelming.
When I find myself surfing the world wide web for menu ideas, new books on this and that, I have to stop myself and walk away for a bit. It is so easy to get sucked in to the latest and greatest. The shiny new gadget that is going to change your life. The menu plans that will revolutionize how you cook.
Wouldn't it be better to just go within and ask your Higher, wiser self what would be best at this time? For example, I like to cook, and I hate to admit but I have a problem with buying and reading too many cookbooks. I do. I buy them, read them and never follow one recipe. Okay, maybe I follow one or two, but you see my creativity comes out when I allow my imagination to create recipes. I never follow a recipe all the way. I always make up a little something here and there. And most importantly I have a good time doing it. I get a little stressed trying to follow a recipe. I am learning to just make whatever I want to make at the time. When I do this, listen to my wise self, I have fun and make a great meal.
This is a small example of how you can utilize your Higher self. We always seem to look outside ourselves for the answers. Let me ask you this. Who knows you better than you? I don't know what is best for you. Not my job. That is your job. We all need help and guidance once in a while, but our Higher self will never steer us wrong if we take the time to look within. Are you up for that challenge?
Here's a way to easily access your Higher self. Take a deep breath and write down a question that you would like some guidance on. Take another deep breath with the intention of receiving the best and highest guidance available from your Higher self, then begin writing (or typing). Do not filter yourself, just write. It may be a few sentences or a whole page. After you have written all that you are going to write, stop and read the wisdom on the page. I find my guidance to be practical and positive. In fact, if it isn't positive and life affirming you aren't getting guidance from your Higher self. Be clear with this intention before you begin.
The key to receiving accurate advice from your Higher self is action. You can receive information all day long, but if you do not take action on this wisdom, you will continue to receive the same advice over and over. If nothing changes, nothing changes. In order to receive new information, you must move forward and take action. You might not want to do this. You may love sitting in meditation and receiving all this lovely insight, but your life will not change for the better if you do nothing with this awesome information. A lot of people stop at this point. Taking action, takes guts. I encourage you to take action and see what happens in your life. Remember that we are spiritual beings in a physical body. We are here on Earth to experience ourselves. So go within, then go get 'em. Until next time...
