Hey, howdy, ho folks. Happy July to you all. The days are hot and a bit lazy for me. I have spent many hours reading, hanging out with my kids, being near water, and generally just being slower than usual. The pace in the summer just seems slower and more relaxed (at least for me). With this extra time, I have found myself going on Facebook more than I usually do; just scrolling and scrolling all the many posts. I have recently become more aware of all these "body image" type posts on Facebook. Posts about how women are being blasted on social media about not being thin enough, pretty enough, enough, enough, enough. And I have to say it is pissing me off.
I am pissed at the society we live in that says we women have to look a certain way in order to be beautiful. I am pissed at the men (and women) who think they are entitled to make such degrading comments towards women, and I am pissed at women for buying into this bullshit. Guess what ladies, you are buying into this myth every time you you let assholes hurt your feelings about how you look. You are buying into this every time you look at a magazine and berate yourself. You are buying into this every moment you waste precious time thinking/saying to yourself how if only you could be thinner, smarter, taller, blonder, bolder, yada, yada, yada. Just stop! You will be soooooo much happier if you just stop buying into the lie (and lies they are).
Does that sound too easy, to just stop? It can be. Change comes from within. I cannot change you. Your husband/wife cannot change you. Your friends, your family, your dog cannot change you. YOU can change YOU. We are each unique, divine and awesome, but if you put your self worth in others' opinions of who you should be/and look, you are setting yourself up for a miserable life. Ask 10 people the same question, and you will probably get 10 different answers. What is beautiful to one person is not to another. Do everyone and yourself a favor and stop all that nonsense. Just.....love......you!
A magical thing happens when you truly look at yourself, inside and out, and just take a deep breath and love all of you. The magical thing is you cease to care what other people think of you. You no longer worry about it. Your energy is free to flow to other more interesting things; things that make you happy. And another wonderful thing happens with true acceptance. Those haters fall away, and if they don't fall away, you just no longer give the haters any energy. It just bugs haters when they are ignored. They will eventually go hate on someone else. You know they really just hate themselves though, don't you?
So each and every day, tell yourself how awesome you are. Say, "I am awesome!" Say, "I am powerful." Say, "I am perfectly imperfect." If it feels hard and weird, then all the more reason to do it often. Appreciate your body, your mind, your spirit, you journey, your everything. Gratitude is a beautiful thing, and SO ARE YOU! Tell your kids that they are awesome just the way they are. Tell them they can do anything and be anything they desire (no gender limitations here). Don't focus on the outside, go inward and you will blossom. Until next time....
