Hello everyone. I had some thoughts this morning, and I would like to share. I was thinking about how I get up each morning, feed my dog and my fish, I make coffee and then I grab my i-pad after I go to the bathroom of course. Every morning is the same. It is my routine. While I feel it is important to have some daily routines, like eating, showering, going to work, etc, I feel it is equally important to be flexible in your routines. Flexibility allows for flow in your day. Magic can happen when we are open to it.
I have noticed that I drive the same route day after day when taking my kids to school. I've noticed that I shower a certain way (shampoo, conditioner, wash my body then the face), I put on my make-up the same each day (left eye, then right eye). It is amazing how we have so many routines.
Which shoe do you put on first? Do you wear your hair the same way day after day? Do you drive the same route every single day? Do you eat at the same restaurants, order the same coffee drink? There is no judgement here. I've just been noticing all the various routines I employ day after day.
Sometimes I look at my kids and think they have too many routines. My son gets antsy if something "pops" up in his daily schedule. I find this interesting. I do believe that children really benefit from a schedule, but am I over scheduling my kids? I think that mixing things up can be very good for us all. Doing something completely "crazy" and out of character is good for the Soul.
This week, notice your routines; then have a good laugh. Try changing how you do one thing, just one and see how it feels. Does it feel weird? I did this the other day with my eye make-up. It was such an odd feeling doing it differently. Have fun with this and see how it goes. Until next time...
