Ever have those weeks where you are just gettin shit done? You are here, there and everywhere? You are on fire? That was me last week. I was super focused and getting visible in the world (via the internet). This week, not so much. This week I feel tired and unmotivated. As an entrepreneur, that isn't always the best place to be. But that is where I am.
One of the reasons I feel so freakin tired is social media. I have a love/hate relationship with it actually. I am fairly new to actually "marketing" myself on social media. But because I do all of my work remotely, I really do need to use Facebook and Instagram to attract my ideal clients; at least that is what everyone says. Which brings me to the point of this post.
Everyone has an opinion, and of course this is so. We are each unique and divine and all that. You have heard me say this a gazillion times. But if everyone has an opinion and everyone is unique and divine, then which opinion is "right"? Ah, there in lies the million dollar question. Some folks post their shit all over Facebook; you know the posts where they talk about making 6 figures in 6 months with a huge picture of their yacht. Others are posting on how it is all about building relationships and being open with your story in order to connect with your ideal clients; then people start sharing every, freaking, detail of their life on Facebook. Then there are those who pop in here and there and comment or like or offer you a freebie (I do that one actually). It is just all so overwhelming for me this week. And before you ask, I am not on my period, nor am I even pre-menstrual. I just feel like it is all too much sometimes. And so back to the point of this blog post.
Listen. Listen to your wise self. It is all well and good to share your story, your promos, your freebies, your picture, your whatever. But if you start to feel like it is all just too much for you, take a step back and just breathe for a bit. Maybe get off of Facebook. There are tons of folks who are NOT on social media all day. There are a lot of folks who are though. I know it is all too easy for me to scroll through posts for an hour and not even blink. What does your intuition tell you? That is what is important for you.
Let me bring up a point here before I continue. If you are new to marketing yourself and getting visible, you will feel the overwhelm from time to time. Posting your offers or even your picture can be scary and out of your comfort zone. That is however not what I am talking about here. I am talking about feeling overwhelmed by all the advise, guidance and opinions about what you "should" do on social media. I think that everyone has value and expertise. I think it is awesome when that value is shared. But ultimately you need to look within your own bad self to see how it feels. Does it feel super salesy, heart felt, arrogant, desperate, etc? It needs to feel just right for you. Cause honestly, if it doesn't feel right to you and you do it anyway, guess what? You will most likely get very little results from all that "hard work". And it'll feel like hard work.
I know that social media is an awesome way to connect with people. I have attracted clients through Facebook. Yay! Instagram has proven to be a fun, creative way for me to get my messages out there into the world wide web. But, if it starts to overwhelm you, take a break. Talk to real people in person. Do something different. Listen to your wise, unique divine self. Maybe for you, posting your wares looks very different than what it looks like for me. And thank goodness for that. I embrace the differences. Remember this is your life. You are in the driver's seat, and you choose what you do and don't do. It's all about the choices. I do love having the freedom to choose. So today, I choose some creative and playful fun. What do you choose? Until next time.
